What it is

The blossom & foliage calendar is a WeChat mini-program in development at VoyBird. It aims to turn "are the cherries blooming" and "have the maples turned" into a forecast calendar covering major viewing regions in Japan and China, plus personal viewing logs.

It is still in development and not yet available. This page will be updated with the entry and mini-program code once ready.

How the forecasts work

Cherry blossoms and autumn leaves are driven mostly by temperature: accumulated warmth after winter decides when flower buds wake, and the pace of autumn cooling decides color progression. Institutions such as the Japan Meteorological Corporation and Weathernews publish cherry-blossom front forecasts each year, and some Chinese city meteorological bureaus and botanical gardens issue local bloom forecasts.

This product plans to consolidate such public phenological methods with continuous correction into easy-to-read viewing windows. Any forecast can be off — cross-check recent on-site conditions before departure.

How it differs from fixed dates in guides

"Late March for cherries, November for maples" in guides are multi-year averages that can differ from the actual season by one or two weeks. A forecast calendar updates with the year's temperature progress, and viewing logs let you compare with the days you actually went.

It answers "which days are worth going this year", not "when it usually blooms".

About the data

Forecast methods, coverage and refresh cadence will follow the in-product notes after launch. Bloom forecasting is probabilistic reference, not a travel guarantee; combine it with official local forecasts and on-site conditions.

FAQ

When will the blossom & foliage calendar launch?
It is still in development with no confirmed launch date; this page will carry the entry once available. For pre-season planning, see the VoyBird blog's Mount Fuji and seasonal viewing articles.
How accurate are blossom forecasts, and why do dates shift each year?
Bloom timing is temperature-driven: warm winters pull it earlier, cold snaps push it later. Institutional forecasts are revised as temperatures unfold and are most reliable within one to two weeks of the date. Treat them as reference and check on-site conditions before leaving.
Which regions will be covered?
Coverage is planned for major Japanese viewing regions (Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka, Tohoku, Hokkaido) and common cherry/maple spots in China; the final list follows the in-product description after launch.
