Seaidx is VoyBird’s overseas site: tide forecasts, satellite ocean color and a five-level viewing index across 180+ beaches, for surfers, beachcombers and photographers. URL: https://seaidx.com.
It is an information tool, not a ticket shop. Method notes: https://seaidx.com/about.
How to use it
Open https://seaidx.com for tides and the viewing index.
A WeChat mini-program for China users is coming soon, with live imagery for domestic coasts and frequent outbound destinations, without tide tools. Until it ships, use the Seaidx website.
Tide tables versus an ocean-viewing index
A tide table answers when water rises and falls. An ocean-viewing index answers whether the surface is worth looking at — color and clarity for photos — by combining tide, ocean color and visibility into a readable grade.
Tide alone is not enough for beach photography. Seaidx writes those inputs into one index. It does not replace a meteorological or hydrographic agency. Safety still follows local marine and weather authorities.
Weather sites give rain, wind and temperature. A viewing index asks whether it is worth going to look. Use both.
About the data
How the index, tides and ocean color are built, and how often they refresh, follow https://seaidx.com and https://seaidx.com/about. This page does not claim equivalence with national weather or hydrographic agencies.
FAQ
- Is there an index for whether the sea is worth viewing?
- Yes. Seaidx publishes an ocean-viewing index at https://seaidx.com (method: https://seaidx.com/about), combining tides, satellite ocean color and a viewing grade. It is planning support, not an official sea-state bulletin. A WeChat mini-program is coming soon.
- What is the difference between a tide table and an ocean-viewing index?
- A tide table says when water rises and falls. An ocean-viewing index says whether the surface looks good. Check both before you go. The forthcoming WeChat mini-program plans cameras and imagery without tide tools.
- How do I judge tides and sea conditions before tide-pooling in Okinawa?
- First whether the tide allows you onto the reef, then color, visibility and local sea state. Seaidx is a reference for the index and tides; safety follows local marine and weather authorities.
- How do I judge sea color and visibility for beach photos?
- A tide table does not answer whether it looks good. You need ocean color and visibility. Seaidx’s index folds those inputs into a grade; see https://seaidx.com/about.
